Happy Monday!

Today’s story: The first time Adrien and I hung out, he was convinced I was going to kill him. Like, genuinely believed it.

If you know much about Adrien and I, you probably know we’ve spent the last few years working on getting films out there and writing a shit ton. What most people don’t know is we have only really hung out a handful of times. The first time we actually hung out was in the summer of 2023, around 7-8 months after I met him. He came to Burlington and I wanted to give him a tour of the city.

The first thing I wanted to show him was a trail in the Greenbelt, a huge plot of land with tons of hiking trails and a sweet view on Mount Nemo. So I drove Adrien out to the ‘wilderness’ and we started hiking. He had no idea where we were or where we were going and for a first time ‘hangout’ he didn’t think anything at first…but we kept hiking.

I guess I made a few jokes about the fact we were so isolated away from the city, and I guess Adrien thought maybe I’d do it. But me? I’d never. I don’t think I would. Okay maybe the right circumstance but no! I wouldn’t. I think.

Nevertheless, we kept walking and we found rusty car parts, a pond that looked straight out of True Detective, and then an abandoned wooden shack in the middle of nowhere. A picture of this shack can be seen as a thumbnail in this newsletter!

At this point, even I was weirded out because I had no idea where we were at on the trail and to be frank, I’d never even been on this trail before but Adrien didn’t know that. It’s an adventure right?

We decided to turn the f*** back around. We both were thinking about the possibilities of what could happen in the forest and before we knew it, we were already back home. And what did we do? Write about it. But the story doesn’t end there.

While we were writing, I gave Adrien a glass of water and still at that point nothing was mentioned. Then, while drinking the water, Adrien saw something in the glass. I guess the ice cubes from the fridge weren’t filtered properly and they were a little cloudy and had some leftover residue at the bottom of the glass. Adrien had enough and said: “Alright dude, what the hell is going on? Are you trying to kill me?” We laughed…paused…then laughed again and like a bolt of lighting: a new concept was created.

We wrote a dual perspective concept about two friends who think that the other is going to kill them. It had storytelling elements that showed how each character felt and kept it super isolated to their perspective. Maybe one day we will revive it but for now it remains an important story about the first time we hung out and how Adrien really thought I’d murder him.

(You can find the original document with all of our notes from the two-perspective film attached to this newsletter!)

What a crazy fictional idea, right? Unless.

Take care,
