Happy Monday!

This week’s newsletter is dedicated to hearing. We wouldn’t get those impeccable line deliveries or subtle background textures without the incredible people behind the audio.

So in the spirit of Anthony’s Balls, let me tell you about the night before our shoot, when we had no audio person lined up and were, essentially, screwed.

It’s August 30th, the night before the shoot. I was over at Adrien’s so we could run through the following day ahead and make sure everything was in order. And as it looked, it was. Until it wasn’t.

Normally, we work with an incredibly talented audio wizard named Skye Aliyah. She’s been on so many of our projects and is our go-to whenever we’re gearing up for a shoot. But tragedy struck when she called to say she was under the weather and couldn’t make it. These things happen.

Not ideal, but we’ve been in tight spots before. We had backups!

First call? Unavailable.

Second? Unavailable.

Third? Also unavailable.

Fourth… also… un… available.

Oh boy.

What started as a relaxed evening instantly turned into a panic fest. We reached out to a few more folks to ask about this favor but considering it was the NIGHT before, we couldn’t blame them. The only realistic option left? We’d have to handle audio ourselves alongside the always reliable, Raj Wilfred.

But there we we’re, Adrien and I sitting in front of his TV the night before the shoot, watching tutorials on how to operate clip-on mics and the multitrack recorder pictured below:

Then….a gift from above.

Michael Molloy, our casted actor to play Jack in Anthony’s Balls, gives us a call and tells us the greatest news on the planet. A friend of his, Nick Milczarczyk, who lived TWO HOURS away from where we were going to shoot, said he’d be able to come in and help us with audio.

To say he immediately became cemented as a Marquet Films LEGEND is an understatement. He said he owed Michael a favour and knew nothing about the project (probably for the better!) but still, he was in.

The next day, Nick showed up on set, we had the audio equipment for him, and he was ready to go. An incredibly kind gesture and such a pleasure to have during our filming. He got the audio we needed and did a stellar job.

This film has brought us so many new friendships and stories and we knew this was something special. We’re excited to share the film with you all and hope you’re following our socials on Instagram and TikTok because we’re putting new content up DAILY!

Anthony’s Balls, April 1st.

Tender tickles,
